This week, a drone manufactured by a 3D printer was launched from a Royal Navy ship off the coast of Dorset, which is considered the first in the world.
The lightweight device is shaped like a small aircraft that takes off from a 3 m pop-up window on the gun deck of the patrol boat HMS Mersey.
Before landing at Chesil Beach, it flew for nearly five minutes with a remote control and traveled about 500 m, with an onboard camera capturing images of the sea below.
The wingspan of the 3 kg-kilogram drone is nearly one kilometer.
5 m with a maximum speed of 100mph and a manufacturing cost of several thousand pounds.
According to its designers, it can replace unmanned aerial vehicles that traditionally cost millions of dollars.
