NASA is exploring the possibility of turning the passing asteroid into a spaceship.
The quirky idea is one of the 13 concepts of \"Moon shooting --far-
Ideas that may never be a reality
Is exploring.
The concept was designed by Jason Dunn.
Founder of a company that built 3D printers on the International Space Station (ISS).
Dunn believes that a mechanism can be developed that will merge with the asteroid and turn it into an autonomous spacecraft.
They can then be used to intercept objects set to collide with the Earth, as well as other tasks.
Another proposed project is to build an underwater drone that can dive through a volcano in a cold satellite.
It is also hoped that microorganisms will be used to recover old spacecraft components.
All of these concepts will receive a $100,000 grant from NASA to fund feasibility studies over the next nine months.
Those who show hope will receive $500,000 in funding over the next two years to develop their ideas.
Last year, NASA awarded seven projects with a $500,000 development grant.
Including a plan to send solar-
