Rapid prototyping belongs to discrete/stacked molding. It puts forward a new thinking mode dimension model from the molding principle, which is about to make the 3D model of the parts on the computer, do Grid processing and storage, and layer it, the two-dimensional profile information of each layer section is obtained. According to these contour information, the processing path is automatically generated. Under the control of the control system, the molding head selectively solidified or cut a layer of molding material, each section profile sheet is formed and gradually superimposed into three-dimensional blanks. then after the gray parts are processed, the parts are formed.

The process of rapid prototyping is as follows:

l)Construction of product 3D model. Since the RP system is directly driven by the 3D CAD model, the 3D CAD model of the processed workpiece must be constructed first. The 3D CAD model can be designed by computer-aided software (Such as Pro/E, I- DEAS, Solid Works, UG, etc) Direct construction can also convert the two-dimensional drawings of existing products to form a three-dimensional model, or perform laser scanning and CT tomography on product entities to obtain point cloud data, then the 3D model is constructed by reverse engineering.

2)Approximate processing of 3D models. Since the products often have some irregular free surfaces, the model should be approximate before processing to facilitate subsequent data processing. Due to the simple and practical format of STL format files, it has become a quasi-standard interface file in the field of rapid prototyping. It is to approximate the original model with a series of small triangle planes, each small triangle is described with 3 vertex coordinates and a normal vector, the size of the triangle can be selected according to the accuracy requirements. STL files have two output forms: binary code and ASCll code. The space occupied by binary code output form is much smaller than that occupied by ASCII code output form files, however, the ASCII code output form can be read and checked. Typical CAD software has the function of converting and outputting STL format files.

3)Slice processing of 3D models. According to the features of the processed model, select the appropriate machining direction, and approximate the model with a series of plane cutting at a certain interval in the direction of the molding height, so as to extract the profile information of the section. The interval is generally 0. 05mm ~ 0. 5mm, commonly used 0. 1mm. The smaller the interval, the higher the molding accuracy, but the longer the molding time, the lower the efficiency, and the lower the precision, but the high efficiency.

4)Molding processing. According to the profile of the section processed by the slice, under the control of the computer, the corresponding forming head (Laser head or nozzle) Scan according to the profile information of each section, pile up the material layer by layer on the workbench, and then bond the layers to get the prototype product.

5)Post-processing of molded parts. Take out the molding parts from the molding system for polishing, polishing, coating, or post-sintering in a high temperature furnace to further improve its strength.
